Protections for people with pre-existing conditions, tax credits for lower- and middle-class insurance buyers, and expanded state Medicaid programs for the poor would all be gone. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) quoted an attack by Adolf Hitler on Jews on the House floor Monday to chide Democrats and the media. Brooks read from Hitler’s autobiography, Mein Kampf, about the Nazi leader’s characterization of “big lie” propaganda that he said was used by his Jewish opponents. In Brooks’ scenario, it applies to Democrats and the media. [HuffPost] NEW JERSEY TO ALLOW TERMINALLY ILL TO END THEIR LIVES New Jersey is poised to be the latest state in America to allow terminally ill people the right to end their own lives. State lawmakers passed bills in the New Jersey Assembly and Senate on Monday approving the measure, which would take effect later this year. The “Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act” would allow patients with six months or less to live to self-administer life-ending medication. [HuffPost] CARBON EMISSIONS REACH RECORD HIGH Global energy-related carbon emissions rose to a record high last year as energy demand and coal use increased, according to the International Energy Agency. Energy-related CO2 emissions rose by 1.7 percent from the previous year, the highest rate of growth since 2013, with the power sector accounting for almost two-thirds of this growth. The United States’ CO2 emissions grew by 3.1 percent in 2018, reversing a decline a year earlier, while China’s emissions rose by 2.5 percent and India’s by 4.5 percent. Fraser Anning last week after the politician said the Christchurch, New Zealand, mosque shootings were the fault of Muslim immigrants for entering the country in the first place. “I understand what I did was not the right thing to do,” Connolly, 17, told a television program on Australia’s Network 10. “However, this egg has united people and, you know, money had been raised, tens of thousands of dollars have been raised for those victims.” [HuffPost]

The walkout, organized by local activist and student Zyahna Bryant and the high school’s Black Student Union, was framed around pushing the school district for cultural reform and increased safety ― particularly salient concerns in a city where white supremacists held a large and deadly rally less than two years ago.
