No Images? Click here While the #MeToo wave might have hit Bollywood last October, it appears that the men are getting redemptive narratives wayyy before we thought they would, even by Bollywood's standards.Rajkumar Hirani, accused of repeated sexual assault, has been slowly making public appearances. Hirani was present at the pre-wedding festivities of Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta in Switzerland and even showed up at the main event in Mumbai. However, a few of our sources who were present at the celebrations revealed that most guests kept a distance from the Sanju filmmaker and Hirani wasn't seen on the stage either. This isn't the only terrible news of the week (you're welcome). I met Sacred Games' Kukoo aka Kubbra Sait in downtown Mumbai and she recalled a completely bonkers story about the time she auditioned for Salman Khan's Ready. If Bollywood could be summed up in a nutshell, Kubbra's audition is that nutshell. While I've already started bingeing on Netflix's new show Delhi Crime (expect interviews with the cast and director in the coming week), a film you shouldn't miss is Ritesh Batra's Photograph that's playing in theatres.Sure, it's hyper indie and what some would call 'art-house type', but if you watched Total Dhamaal (why?), you really have some atoning to do.Love this newsletter, hate it? You can drop me a howler at @aktalkies on Twitter and Insta! It isn't just public appearances though. On Tuesday, Filmfare Awards, the oldest film awards in the country, announced their annual nominations and Hirani was nominated in the Best Director category for Sanju, a dishonest biopic that absolves its leading man of all responsibility.Incidentally, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer also made it to a bunch of Worst Films of 2018 list, including ours. Predictably, there was outrage on Twitter after Hirani's nomination was out, but Filmfare, I hear, is just going to sit this one down. How many months before the third film in the Munnabhai franchise is officially announced with Hirani at the helm?Well, we won't be particularly surprised if it's in the next few months, sexual assault allegations be damned.A few months ago, we wrote in detail about how Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh's dreamy romance began on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansal's Ram-Leela (they wouldn't stop kissing even after Bhansali said 'cut' during the filming of Ang Laga Le), but kissing isn't the only quality of Singh's that Padukone fell for.In an uncharacteristically candid comment — Padukone is fairly tough to interview due to her reserved nature — she let her guard down and spoke about what worked in Singh's favour which other men she had dated failed in (looking at you, RK).Her observation, it turns out, has empirical evidence and is often a problem in conventional heteronormative relationships. Men dating successful women, head here to read Padukone's stellar dating advice.New to this email?
